Writing and music go hand in hand for me. I can’t create a bookish world without music, and I can’t listen to music without creating stories in my head.
I had multiple playlists on the go while writing Love Wants Us to Win. There was the McNally’s playlist for songs from the bar, a ‘team spirit’ playlist, a ’90s playlist, and several others. I also listened to U2’s Achtung Baby on repeat because it was an album I played to death in 1992-93, so it helped me jump into the early ’90s mindset with ease.
Here’s the final playlist, a mix of retro tunes and current day bangers. Enjoy!
Please note: several songs from my personal collection that I included on my playlist aren’t available to stream on Spotify (where this public playlist is hosted). Missing songs from my Love Wants Us to Win playlist include “We Are Family” by Sister Sledge, “I’m in a Different World” by Dave Stewart and Barbara Gaskin, and “Our Day Will Come” by Ruby and the Romantics.
